Easy Ways to Stand Out in the Job Search

To all my job seeking friends, your resume is only a piece in the job search puzzle.

Having a well-crafted resume can definitely help you stand out in a pool of candidates.

However, it’s not the only factor recruiters and hiring managers take into consideration when evaluating candidates for a position.

Prepare for the interview

Whether your interview is in person or virtual, it’s important to be on time. Arriving 5 minutes early to the interview to collect one’s thoughts on key skills and experiences you want to focus on in the interview can be helpful.

There’s a saying “you never get a second chance to make a first impression.”

Being 5 minutes early to a virtual interview allows for time to test audio and video to make sure it’s working properly and set oneself up to make a good first impression.

Concluding the interview

At the end of the interview when the interviewer asks, “do you have any questions?”

Make sure you’ve done your research on the company. Having questions to ask the interviewer, conveys your interest in the company and shows initiative.

Leave a lasting impression. After the interview be sure to follow up with a thank you note within 24 to 48 hours. Be sure to thank the interviewer for their time and reaffirm your interest in the position.
