If you asked me early in my career if I envisioned having a career break my answer would’ve been a clear “No.”

However, life happens and some or most of the time it may not align with your desired career path, mine sure didn’t. Personally, I have a career break.

👩‍👧 Enter kids 👩‍👧

 Becoming a parent has taught me several life lessons and given me clarity.

Here are some things I’ve learned as a parent during my career break:

📦 Thinking outside of the box 📦 

My son and I were on a hike, when he noticed a rock on the ground. He said “Mom, it’s half a heart 💔” when I first looked at it, I couldn’t see it. I closed my eyes took a deep breath and when I looked at it with a fresh set of eyes and mind, I saw the half a heart 💔 he was referring to.

🔑 Flexibility is Key 🔑

Kids get sick and meetings need to be rescheduled. My teen forgets a study guide for finals and texts me in a panic to bring to school. Having the ability to shift priorities at a moment’s notice is critical.

💡 Resourceful💡

You may have heard of the expression “kids don’t come with instructions” is so true! Learning on the job as a parent. There is a lot of trial and error. What worked with one kid may not work with the other kid. Each kid is unique.
